Other Ways To Give

Make a Planned Gift: When you include the Kurt Grinnell Aquaculture Scholarship Foundation (KGASF), your generosity will have a powerful impact. We can refer you to experts ready to find the best charitable plan.

Popular Gifts:

  1. Wills and Living Trusts: If you want to leave funds to the KGASF in your will– you can do so. And you can retain the flexibility to change your will in the event that life circumstances change. No need to be wealthy to do this! Your estate can also subtract any gift from your estate tax obligations.

In just a few sentences you can complete your gift. This type of gift in your will or living trust helps ensure that the KGASF can continue our mission of assisting Tribal and First Nations Members in pursuing an education in aquaculture, fisheries or natural resources or facilitating educational opportunities on aquaculture to Tribal and First Nations Members.

  1. Bequest Language Information

Planning for the future and creating a gift or legacy is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. Making a bequest (a gift in your will or living trust) can guarantee that your legacy endures the test of time. Your gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the remainder after all other provisions are specified.

  1. Beneficiary Designations: Another way of advancing the mission of the KGASF is through a beneficiary designation. There are at least three options for doing this:
    1. IRAs and Retirement Plans
    2. Life insurance policies
    3. Commercial Annuities

You would simply name the KGASF as the beneficiary under your IRA or retirement plan, life insurance plan or commercial annuity. Any designated assets would then pass to the KGASF without Court intervention. And your estate may receive a charitable estate tax deductions.

It is easy to do! You simply request a beneficiary designation form from your plan administrator, insurance company or bank. Steps: a) designate the KGASF as the primary or contingent beneficiary, either for the entire amount, a percentage of the funds, or a specified amount the funds b) sign, date the forms, c) submit the form to your plan administrator, insurance provider or bank and that is it! The funds can pass without a lengthy Court process. And should your financial circumstances change, you can cancel or change the beneficiary designation.

Other ways to give: IRA Rollover and Real Estate Gifts

  1. IRA Charitable Rollover: You can give through your IRA! (you can also use your pension, profit sharing plan, thrift savings plan 401) (k) or 403(b) plan for this purpose) If you are 70& ½ or older, you can give any amount up to $105,000 per year from your IRA to the Kurt Grinnell Aquaculture Scholarship Foundation. And you would not pay any income taxes on the money. Some folks call this a Qualified Charitable Distribution. Some benefits of using an IRA Charitable Rollover: a) your gift has an immediate effect and KGASF can use the funds now or as soon as they are needed, b) you pay no income tax on the gift, c) if you are required to take a “required minimum distribution” from your retirement account you can use this kind of gift to meet all or a portion of this requirement, d) these gifts don’t count as income and there it can reduce your annual income level. This may help to lower your taxes and reduce your Medicare premiums. Simply contract your plan administrator (for example, Fidelity, Vanguard, Charles Schwab, etc.) and designate a distribution to:

  1. Real Estate: Give the KGASF real estate, such as a personal residence, vacation home, farm, commercial property or undeveloped land. Doing so helps the KGASF achieve its mission and such a give of real estate can help you. If you have held the property for greater than one year, you qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction and you may minimize or eliminate capital gains tax. And for some individuals, this eliminates the headache of dealing with property maintenance costs, property taxes or insurance.
